overdue update :)

22nd January 2006

overdue update :)

Been too quiet for too long – or so I’ve been told – so here’s an update on life…We’re all moved, and almost settled in. The kitchen’s still not quite finished, but is almost there now and looking good. Settee is still in the garage and not worked out what we’re doing with that :(

Should get broadband back soon, but until then am slumming it with dial-up except for when the neighbour’s left their modem/router on… oh the joys of insecure networks :p

Hev and bump are doing well – just 3 weeks to due date now, so I panic everytime she calls!

I’ll get some new pics up soon, but working all weekend and really tired atm. Watch this space though ;)

last minute hitch

all went a bit wrong! No one thought to tell us that installing a new kitchen would mean the whole house is covered in crap and totally uninhabitable. Didn’t manage to move anything, so looks like its all hapening at the weekend instead :(

29th December 2005

moving

Following Patrick’s comment, thought I ought to justify the sheep thing for the benefit of those who don’t know me (or rather Hev) too well ;-) There again, I could just keep you guessing…

Came home yesterday to find most of the house already packed up for me. Weird but kinda handy. Have no idea where anything is, and can’t make coffee this morning, but it’s certainly made life easier. Huge thanks to whoever was involved in that. Huge thanks too (not that she’ll read this) to the lady who bought me lunch yesterday! Was manic at work and only two of us in, so no chance for a lunch break. One of the customers felt so sorry for me that she offered to get me something. Handed her a tenner in the hope that she would come back… and she did! See, there are some decent people in Basildon afterall. Not sure what I’d have prefered, though, working or packing.

Still got lots of stuff to get rid of. The computer, desk and bedroom furniture have gone. In fact, I think Jeanette took more stuff home than she packed, so could well be that other stuff has gone too. I really have no idea. Have no idea why the kettle’s not working either. Off to McDonalds…

26th December 2005

Too much stuff to move

Well, we’ve strarted packing and have come to the official conclusion that we have too much and some of it’s gonna have to go. I’ll update this list as we go along, but so far we have the following….
  • Computer workstation (and probably computer too!)
  • printers – Lexmark X85 3-in-1 (used) and brand new Epson C46 in box
  • Fishtank (now empty)
  • Dining table and chairs (not in great condition but there)
  • Bookcases/shelving units
  • Glass/display cabinet
  • 3 piece suite (scatter cushions on back of settee could benefit
from new fibres, otherwise still in good state – armchairs are ok)
  • washing machine (niothing wrong with it, but got built-in combi in new place)
  • small chest freezer
  • electric cooker – almost new – only had it a week (cost us £300, but new built in oven in new place)
  • bedroom cupboards
  • pile of board games
  • 4 DVD racks from IKEA (hold 50-60 each)
  • BT Synergy additional DECT handsets (can be used with any other digital cordless phone)
  • Stereo & speakers (3 CD auto-changer, 2 cassette, radio tuner)
  • Plates/bowl set – 6 large plate, 6 small plates, 6 bowls – IKEA, dark Blue
  • Kitchen trolley (wooden table on wheels with shelf, drawer and wine rack)
  • Glasses – got loads, shout if you want some
  • Mountain Bike – hardly used and almost new
  • Glass bowls
  • Glass worktop savers
  • Bamboo blinds (various sizes!)
  • Esspresso/Cappucino coffe machine thing
  • Full length freestanding mirror
  • Lots of IKEA plastic cups
  • Box of DVD cases (don’t ask!)
  • cuddly toy?!?
  • sheep!!

also got loads of CAT5 ethernet cable that’s been run right round the house, and coaxial cables that have done the same – if you want to network computers or send tv signal from one side of your house to the other then now’s your chance to do it cheap!

Also just found about a dozen Youth Bibles and a load of teaching/resource material that we’ve doubled-up on… Any offers?!

If you can give any of the above a good home then let us know. Most of it is still in excellent condition, but we just don’t have the space for it. Seems a shame to dump it if it can be used by someone else. If you’re able to give us anything in return then we won’t say no…. cos we need a new dishwasher! Only thing we’re really keen to get cash back on is the oven – not so fussed about the rest.

Got a crate full of assorted CDs that we’re about to dump too – some secular, some Christian. If you’re passing, feel free to have a look and help yourself. In fact, if you’re passing bring a box and a paintbrush, or at lesat help move a few things for us!

nearly there…

Finally got everything sorted for new house. Almost didn’t get it cos our existing landlord decided to be a complete idiot (again). Get the keys on Thursday, so gonna be spending Thursday and Friday moving…. offers of help are welcome! With Hev pregnant and me not well atm, we’re gonna be struggling! Spent last night drawing pictures so we know everything will fit…. must get out more.Just had a minor panic – Hev’s waters broke. Well, ok, not quite as bad as we thought – it was just her hot water bottle. She’s now banned from having them. Something about burniong herself on Christmas Eve – the shower exploded on her this time last year (almost to the hour).Must look into insurance….

Have a great Christmas!

18th December 2005

moving

OK, so before anyone complains that I’ve not updated this, replied to emails, or been on MSN much – an update on life…..
Our webserver went to webserver heaven, and our landlord decided he won’t renew our tenancy. Good job we’re not both working fulltime, or expecting a baby or anything. Oh, hang on….
Almost found solutions to both problems now. Managed to recover most of the server, with a few exceptions, so should be sending and receiving email normally again now. If you’ve emailed and had no response, try my orange email instead: steve.westrop@orange.netmail
Think we found a new house too. Well, 1st floor maisonette at least. Nice spacious lounge, 2 big bedrooms, garage, etc etc. Not as big as what we have now (or as cheap) but should be ok. Just a tad pissed off that we just put so much time into redecorating here!
If you have a day to spare and want to help move and/or decorate, please feel free!

Hev’s had OFSTED this week which went far better than expeted, and I’ve been promoted at work which is good. Other than that everything’s the same as always!

No fireworks for Phyllis

It’s official – Phyllis doesn’t like
fireworks. She’s been more active over the last few days than ever
before!

Still working on alternative names to Phyllis…. Iona Rebakah and
Samuel Joshua are being bounced about now. Open to other offers
though…
